Heavy-Lift Drone Battery Selection Guide
Start with the mission, not nominal capacity. A suitable heavy-lift UAV battery must meet energy, voltage, peak-current, mass, connector and thermal requirements together.
1. Define the mission
Record payload, target endurance, average propulsion power, peak power during take-off and maneuvering, ambient temperature, altitude and required landing reserve.
2. Match the power system
Confirm ESC, motor and charger voltage limits. Select the series count first, then validate connector and cable current ratings.
3. Calculate energy reserve
Battery energy required = average power × flight time ÷ usable-energy factor. Preserve an operational reserve and verify the calculation against flight logs.
4. Check discharge behavior
Review voltage sag, continuous discharge rating, peak-current capability and pack temperature under the actual payload. A high-capacity pack is not automatically appropriate for a high-current mission.
5. Validate integration
Confirm physical envelope, center-of-gravity impact, connector polarity, BMS behavior, charging process and fleet consistency.
